International trade gets messy fast. You’re staring at quotes from two suppliers, one says FOB at $8 per unit and another says CIF at $9.50 per unit, and you have no idea which is actually cheaper. Then there’s the question of who pays if the shipment gets damaged in transit, when your supplier’s responsibility ends, and what happens if customs holds your goods at the port. FOB<\/strong> (Free On Board), CIF<\/strong> (Cost, Insurance and Freight), and EXW<\/strong> (Ex Works) are the three Incoterms that determine exactly how these costs and risks get split between you and your supplier.
